Bahrain celebrates:
‘1001 Inventions and the World of Ibn Al-Haytham’

Families in Bahrain are welcomed to join a fun weekend of theatre and science celebrating the 1,000 year anniversary of Ibn Al-Haytham’s work in science. Known to many as the ‘father of optics’, he helped revolutionise experimental science and our understanding of light and vision.

The Open University: International Year of Light

This video explores a series of fascinating discoveries and inventions that relate to the field of light looking at the impact of the 5 scientists, Ibn al-Haytham, Augustin-Jean Fresnel, James Clerk Maxwell, Albert Einstein and Charles Kao. These scientists have made history in the field of light and in 2015 the anniversaries of their discoveries are being celebrated as part of the International Year of Light.

Professor Abdul Haleem was an emeritus professor of urology and a medical historian who was a passionate poet too. He wrote this piece to honour Ibn al-Haytham as part of this year’s special celebration of Ibn al-Haytham and his outstanding contributions to ‪#‎science‬ and ‪#‎humanity‬.
